The 1984 Vanden Viking championship team consisted of 33 players, 3 coaches, and 3 captains. The Viking squad went 12-0 winning their Sac-Joaquin Section and SCAL league and were ranked #2 in the state of California by Cal-Hi Sports. The linebacker trio known as "The Orient Express" led the charge to hold opposing teams to 132 total points between them during the 12-game season. The trench crew averaged 186 lbs. The heaviest player on the 1984 Vanden football team was the fullback at 204 lbs. The Vikings offensive trenchers used 'movie-character names' to confuse defenses, giving the offense an edge when the ball was hiked.
