[ Punter ]

(Player Spotlight) - David Smith #60 - Punter, Backup Center, Defensive Line. *Ironman Player

David was a member of the trench crew. He also was our starting punter. He was very good at punting and could send them 50+ yards deep. His accuracy at punting was amazing, as he often gave us great field position with his kick. He had only one punt blocked. He also was our backup center and that's a difficult position to play in the trenches. It takes technical skills and aggression. Dave had them both. He was not afraid to take on players much larger than himself, and he stood his ground. Dave was my compadre. I am proud he was a member of our close-knit trench crew. He served the Vanden Vikings tradition proud on the gridiron. Dave was also a member of the Vanden band, so there were a few times he was in his football uniform playing his instrument. Thanks for the memories, Dave. You took names.
